Lync for Windows 8 gives you access to the same features as its desktop counterpart. By logging into your account, you can access your contact list and start an audio or video call with a person or a group, arrange a meeting, or simply send an instant message .
Presentation tools (desktop sharing, PowerPoint, and whiteboard, to name a few), file sharing options, and links to OneNote are also integrated, although their functionality depends on your Lync server and your account settings.
With Lync for Windows 8, you can also access your chat history , voicemail, or check your calendar for any scheduled meetings. The app did, however, encounter a few problems when I tried to sync the chat history.

Unfortunately, there are very few options available. All you can do is merely synchronize the app with your Lync account; you can't add new contacts, rearrange your list of contacts, or create new contact groups.
