Photosynth is a free Windows Phone app that lets you create interactive panoramas to give people a 360 degree view of where you are in the world.
To start making panoramic shots Photosynth you just hold up your phone and point your camera at a particular spot. You then slowly move your camera from left to right and up and down and you'll notice Photosynth capturing images.
Photosynth bills itself as the only app for any platform that lets you capture 360 degrees horizontally and vertically, allowing you to build the perfect 'sphere'.
Once you've finished capturing you can explore your stitched image in Photosynth by holding down your finger and swiping around. You can zoom in and out of the image using the pinch gesture. Your images are stored locally in your library and you get free storage at Photosynth.net so you can access your creations from any web browser.
When it works, the panoramic effect is great, and there some attractive examples on show in the 'Featured' section of the Photosynth app. However, it's very hard to get right, especially in indoor environments.
In tests on a Samsung Omnia W, we noted that Photosynth tends to freeze or crash sometimes, seemingly when it has to process a large amount of shots within a panorama. This can be annoying because the app won't auto-save what you're working on.
If you're bored of taking regular photos, Photosynth makes an interesting way to get creative with your pictures. It's more fiddly than Instagram , but the results are more impressive when you get it right.
