Slinkset is a free online tool that lets you create your own message board sites in just a few minutes.
These 'social news sites' that you make using Slinkset, are designed as simple tools to share ideas and centralize information for a team. Slinkset sites are perfect for schools, businesses, organizations, and any group who needs to work closely together on projects. Setting up your own site with Slinkset is a very simple process. The sign up process requires minimal personal (in fact, just a username and password is enough). Once you're registered you can manage your site using the straightforward Admin panel. Here you can choose a design from a range of templates, tweak the site's settings, manage user activity and send invites.
Although you get a bit of control over the design of your Slinkset site, don't expect to make anything very flash. The layout is quite rigid, you can only insert one image, and no multimedia content can be added. There is, however, a feature for creating your own CSS.
Once the site is made public anyone is able to come along and contribute to your social news site, provided they have registered with Slinkset. Alternatively, you can make your site private, so that only people who have been invited can comment.
The features of Slinkset sites are pretty limited. User can submit new posts, comment on others' posts, and rate other people's comments, and that's about it. There's no photo-posting, private messaging, live chat, poking.
